Take Heart, Tainted Ones! The mainframe is still the most cost-effective computer platform
for organizations above a certain size, and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
Downsizing, even partial downsizing, is in fact an expensive and potentially disastrous move
for most mainframe users. This "Straight Talk" series of reports addresses the unwarranted
claims made against the mainframe and challenges those who either promote reckless downsizing
or insist unequivocally that a move toward client-server and open systems is a move away from
the mainframe. Each professional using mainframe technology should be wary of the myths and
half-truths that tempt organizations to become fashion victims and advise his/her management
accordingly.
S/390 Microprocessor Complex (P/390) The P/390 is a co-processor for Micro Channel compatible workstations, such as the IBM PS/2 or PC Server product lines. It adds a standalone ESA/390 processor function to a workstation running OS/2. This creates a S/390 workstation that can run ESA mainframe applications concurrently with OS/2 applications. The P/390 is the engine featured in the IBM PC Server 500 System/390 .
Great Microprocessors of the Past and Present A microprocessor generally means a CPU on a single silicon chip, but exceptions have been made (and are documented) when the CPU includes particularly interesting design ideas, and is generally the result of the microprocessor design philosophy.
Processor Information Here is a list of instructions and opcodes used by Intel, AMD, Cyrix and Nexgen. Plus historical technical specifications starting with the 4004 micro processor.

and wasted paper on the floor, Longing for the warmth of bed sheets, still I sat there
doing spreadsheets.
